It groups eleven AI video tools by the job each one is built to do, so you can match the tool to your task before you compare annual prices.
How this list is organised
We did not rank these tools because "best" depends entirely on what you are making. A tool built to find clips inside footage you already shot is not competing with a tool that turns a topic into a finished video from scratch. Ranking them against each other would tell you nothing useful.
One disclosure before anything else: ViewMade appears in this list. We make it. We placed it in the same table as everyone else, described by its own product definition, and we also describe where competitors beat us. If you want a general-purpose generator from a prompt, InVideo or Revid will serve you better than we will. Read this page as a map of the category, not a sales pitch.

AutoShorts fits if you want scheduled publishing handled without touching the output.
CapCut fits if you already have a script and clips and need an editor.
Descript fits if you work around a recording and want the deepest editing control of any tool here.
HeyGen fits if you need a presenter on camera but have no camera or presenter.
InVideo fits if you want broad generation from a single prompt and do not care about source provenance.
Opus Clip fits if you made a long video and want the best moments extracted automatically.
Pictory fits if you start from an article or script and want stock footage matched to it.
Revid fits if volume matters more than provenance and you accept generated visuals throughout.
StoryShort fits if you want topic-to-video with imagery pulled from the web, though its sourcing documentation is partial.

ViewMade fits if you are making vertical documentaries about real events and every clip needs a named source. It is the only tool in this table that ships a media credits file listing the origin of every clip in the render.
What none of them do
None of these tools will hand you a verified documentary. If your Short makes claims about a real event, a real crash, or a real crime, generated visuals cannot support those claims and stock libraries rarely contain the specific archival material the story needs. Only ViewMade pulls real archive footage and names each clip's source in a credits file, and even then the research, script, and narration still deserve a human check before you publish. If accuracy about real events is the requirement, no tool in this list removes the need for editorial judgment. That is the honest limit of the whole category, including our own product.

Descript takes 35% off its monthly rate on annual billing. HeyGen drops Creator from $29 to $24 per month annually. Pictory drops Starter from $29 to $25 per month annually. InVideo quotes $17 per month equivalent on a $200 annual payment. Crayo's published rates apply only to annual payment. Opus Clip offers a free tier instead of an annual discount. Revid's entry price we measured was monthly at $39.
Do any of these tools have a free plan?
Opus Clip has a free tier and does not require a card to trial. Pictory offers a free trial. The other tools we measured did not show a free tier on their pricing pages.
What does ViewMade cost?
Starter is $29 per month for 50 renders, which works out to $0.58 per Short. Pro is $59 monthly or $29.50 per month equivalent on annual billing at $354 per year, a 50% discount, for 150 renders at $0.20 per Short. There is no free tier and no registration credit.
Why are some prices marked "Not measured"?
Some pricing pages render their numbers only through JavaScript, so a direct server fetch returns no dollar figures. Rather than guess, we mark those cells "Not measured". Prices were checked on 23 August 2026 and vendors change their pages, so verify before buying.
