A 23 August 2026 price check of seven tools in this category found entry plans between $0 and $39 per month, and only some of them ship watermark-free output on those entry tiers. This list is not a ranking. It groups each tool by the job it is built for, because the right answer depends on what footage you start with and where it comes from.
How this list is organised
We did not rank these tools. A ranked list of "best" tools is usually a sales page wearing a listicle costume, and both readers and search engines discard it quickly. Instead, every tool here is described by its documented purpose and its footage source, and the starting price column states exactly when and how that figure was measured. Where we could not verify a price, the cell says "Not measured". One disclosure before anything else: ViewMade appears in this list. It is our product. We have placed it in the same table as everyone else, in alphabetical position, with no editorial advantage, and we name the situations where another tool is the better answer.
The tools
| Tool | Built for | Footage source | Starts at |
|---|---|---|---|
| AutoShorts | Scheduled, hands-off publishing from a topic | Generated | Not measured |
| CapCut | Editing a script and clips you already have | Whatever you supply | Not measured |
| Descript | Editing around a recording, with the most control | Whatever you supply | $16/month per person (annual rate), 23 August 2026 |
| HeyGen | A presenter on camera, without a camera | Avatar and supplied media | $24/month (annual rate), 23 August 2026 |
| InVideo | Broad general-purpose generation from a prompt | Generation and stock | $17/month equivalent (annual payment), 23 August 2026 |
| Opus Clip | Finding clips inside a long video you already made | Whatever you supply | Free tier, 23 August 2026 |
| Pictory | Turning an article or script into a stock-footage video | Stock library | $25/month (annual rate), 23 August 2026 |
| Revid | High-volume short-form output with generated visuals | Generated | $39/month (Hobby plan, monthly rate), 23 August 2026 |
| StoryShort | Topic-to-video with web-sourced imagery | Web-sourced imagery | Not measured |
| Submagic | Captioning and polishing an existing clip | Whatever you supply | Not measured |
| ViewMade | Vertical documentaries about real events, with sources named | Real archive footage | $29/month (Starter, monthly only), 22 August 2026 |
When each one is the right answer
AutoShorts fits if you want scheduled publishing handled without touching each video. Its visuals are generated, so the output carries no archive material.
CapCut is the answer when your script and clips already exist and you need an editor rather than a generator.
Descript gives the most control when you are editing around a recording. It does not generate footage at all, which is why watermark questions rarely apply to it.
HeyGen solves a specific problem: putting a presenter on camera without a camera. It combines an avatar with media you supply.
InVideo covers broad general-purpose generation from a prompt, mixing generation with stock. Note that watermark-free output sits behind its paid plans.
Opus Clip is built for finding clips inside a long video you already made. It has a free tier that requires no card, which makes it the cheapest way to test this category.
Pictory turns an article or script into a stock-footage video. If stock library footage is acceptable for your topic, it is a direct fit.
Revid targets high-volume short-form output with generated visuals. Its Hobby plan starts at $39 per month as of 23 August 2026.
StoryShort handles topic-to-video with web-sourced imagery and partial source attribution. Its pricing page did not return prices without JavaScript, so we cannot state a verified figure here.
Submagic captions and polishes a clip you already have. We could not resolve its pricing columns reliably, so its cell reads "Not measured".
ViewMade builds vertical documentaries about real events using real archive footage, maps, and charts, and ships a media credit file naming the source of every clip. It has no free tier and no annual Starter plan.
What none of them do
None of these tools will hand you a finished documentary about a real event with every clip's origin written down, except ViewMade itself, which is why we say so plainly instead of pretending otherwise. But there is also a gap none of us fill: if you want a fully original, cinematic recreation of events that were never filmed, real archive footage cannot provide it, and generated visuals raise disclosure questions on YouTube. If your channel depends on exclusive original footage, the honest answer is a camera crew or licensed production, not any tool on this page. Every tool above automates assembly from existing material.
<!-- faq -->Frequently asked questions
Which of these tools actually produce watermark-free video?
Watermark-free output is confirmed for paid plans of InVideo and for Descript's Hobbyist plan, per their own pricing pages checked on 23 August 2026. Opus Clip offers a free tier. For the remaining tools we did not measure watermark behaviour, so we make no claim either way.
What is the cheapest verified option here?
Opus Clip's free tier costs $0 and needs no card, measured 23 August 2026. Among paid entry points, Pictory's annual rate of $25 per month was the lowest verified figure in our check.
Why do some price cells say "Not measured"?
Some pricing pages render figures only through JavaScript, so a plain HTTP fetch returns nothing usable. Rather than copy unverified numbers from third-party sources, we leave the cell empty of claims. StoryShort's tiers are known from a Stripe-verified source dated 18 August 2026, but not from its own pricing page, so we still mark it "Not measured".
Does ViewMade publish to my YouTube channel?
No. ViewMade requests read-only access, discards the access token after import, and stores no refresh token. It cannot upload, edit, delete, or comment on your channel. You download the package and publish it yourself.
