Script length and what it costs to render

On 22 August 2026, ViewMade's Starter plan was priced at 29 US dollars a month for 50 renders, which comes to $0.58 per short. This article explains how tools in this category charge for a finished short, what their published entry prices work out to per video, and where script length does and does not change the number you pay. Every figure below comes from a direct read of each vendor's own pricing page on 23 August 2026, unless stated otherwise.

The short answer

Most tools in this category do not bill by script length. They bill either a flat number of renders or videos per month, or a pool of credits that different actions consume at different rates. On 23 August 2026, published entry plans ranged from $10 a month at Fluxnote to $149 a month at TubeGen. ViewMade's Starter plan, at $0.58 per short on its 50-render allowance, publishes an exact per-short price because it sells fixed renders rather than credits. If your scripts get longer, your cost usually stays the same until a credit-based tool starts charging more credits for more words, which most vendors do not document publicly.

Two billing models, two different risks

The category splits into two models, and they fail differently when your script grows.

The first model is a fixed quota of renders or videos per month. ViewMade's Starter plan includes 50 renders a month, and Fluxnote's Rise plan describes its 10 videos a month as a "fixed slot cap". Under this model, script length is irrelevant to price: a short script and a long script both consume one slot. Your only risk is running out of slots, not writing more.

The second model is credits. Crayo's Hobby plan includes 50 credits a month, Faceless.so's Starter includes 500 credits, and Short.ai's Basic includes 1600 credits. Here the vendor decides how many credits a given action costs, and that decision can depend on output length. Short.ai's own credit table shows the dependency directly: an AI story video of 30 seconds costs 20 credits. A longer story video would cost proportionally more under that table, though Short.ai does not publish the rate for other durations on the page we read. This is the one place in the category where script length demonstrably feeds into cost, and it is also the place where vendors publish the least.

Three pages could not be read at all: Submagic shows two columns per plan whose monthly and yearly values could not be separated in one pass, Fliki returns no dollar figures server-side, and StoryShort, AutoShorts, CapCut, Hooked, VEED, Vizard and Fliki serve their prices only through JavaScript. For those seven, the honest cell is "not measured", and any article quoting exact prices for them is guessing. StoryShort's tiers of 39, 69, 129 and $199 are known from TrustMRR's Stripe-verified data of 18 August 2026, not from its pricing page.

One arithmetic warning from the table itself: Medeo's Pro page displays $28 per month next to a yearly total of $314, which divides to $26.17 per month. Both numbers appear on the page and they disagree. We report both rather than quietly picking one.

Where script length actually enters the math

For fixed-render tools, it does not. ViewMade charges the same $0.58 per short whether the underlying script runs shorter or longer, because the unit sold is one finished render. Fluxnote's fixed slot cap behaves the same way.

For credit tools, it depends on a rate card most vendors do not publish. We know one concrete rate: Short.ai charges 20 credits for a 30-second AI story video, measured on 23 August 2026. We do not know whether Crayo's 50 credits buy more runtime for a shorter script than a longer one, whether Faceless.so's 500 credits scale with word count, or whether Vicsee's generation cost varies with duration. Those pages do not state it, so we will not claim it. If you are choosing between credit tools specifically because your scripts vary in length, ask the vendor directly for the credit cost of a 30-second and a 90-second output before committing. That single question separates the vendors who bill by length from the ones who bill by action.

What to do with your own numbers

Work backwards from your publishing cadence, not from the sticker price.

Count the shorts you want per month, then divide the entry price by that count. At ViewMade's published rate this division is done for you: $29 over 50 renders is $0.58 per short, measured 22 August 2026. TubeGen does the same service on its own page: its Starter plan works out to $2.47 per published minute, calculated by the vendor from real median credit spend divided by video length, measured 23 August 2026. Its Pro plan lands at $2.01 per minute. These are the only two per-unit rates in the category that anyone publishes openly.

If your cadence is under 10 shorts a month, Fluxnote's 10-dollar Rise plan covers exactly 10 claimed videos and nothing more. If you produce daily, compare the top tiers instead: Crayo's Pro at $55 a month billed yearly against ViewMade's Pro at $59 a month, which drops to $29.5 a month on annual billing at a 354-dollar total, a 50 percent discount, for 150 renders. Note that ViewMade has no yearly option on Starter, so that discount only exists on Pro.

What this does not tell you

We measured prices on one day, 22 to 23 August 2026, from server-rendered HTML. Vendors change plans frequently, and several pages in this category were unreadable without JavaScript, so the comparison excludes StoryShort's live pricing entirely. We did not measure how credit consumption scales with script length for any credit-based tool beyond Short.ai's single published rate for 30-second AI story videos. We also did not measure output quality, voice quality, caption accuracy, or whether the claimed videos-per-month figures on Vicsee, Faceless.so, Fluxnote, Short.ai and Virvid pages are achievable in practice; those are vendor claims, not our measurements. If your workflow needs guaranteed per-script pricing regardless of length, this article supports the decision. If it needs quality rankings, it does not answer that question.

Frequently asked questions

Does a longer script always cost more? No. Fixed-render plans such as ViewMade's Starter, at $0.58 per short on 22 August 2026, charge one render regardless of script length. Why do some comparison articles show prices for tools yours omits? Because they likely ran JavaScript or copied vendor marketing pages. Seven tools in this set, including StoryShort and VEED, serve no dollar figures in server-rendered HTML as of 23 August 2026. Quoting a price for them means sourcing it from somewhere other than the pricing page, and we would rather print "not measured" than a stale or secondhand number.

Is yearly billing always cheaper? Usually, but the size varies wildly. ViewMade's Pro drops from 59 to $29.5 a month, a 50 percent cut. Descript's discount is 35 percent across plans. Crayo's displayed rates are already yearly, so its monthly-only price is simply not visible on the page we read. Always check which rate a table shows before dividing.

Vicsee's free plan gives a one-time 20 credits with watermarking. Quso's free tier gives 75 credits a month at 720p.
